What People Are Saying

I have known David for 20 years.  We have been in many competitions; as partners and opponents.  His knowledge of the game has always impressed me and not once has he not been willing to convey his knowledge when asked.  Anyone that takes a lesson from David will not be disappointed.

I have known and been friends with Mr. David Donovan for many years and if anyone has questions regarding Mr. Donovan, I would like to put them to rest! He is an outstanding man of integrity, all supporting of his abilities across the spectrum for pool and billiards. He truly has a keen eye and a full understanding of what it takes to be a champion. He has helped me see and understand all aspects, from stroke to stance, with a noticeable improvement across the board. I can’t thank David enough for taking my game to the next level, as my game is better now than when I won the US Amateur Championship! Thanks buddy!

I’m a big fan of David’s.  In 2017, in his quest to further his teaching skills, he completed a very intensive certification/training program through me.    Since then, he has continued to study the game and learn it from every possible angle. Nobody will work harder to improve your game than David.   He is well-spoken and possesses both the tools and knowledge to improve your game. During his playing career, he has worked with several top players and instructors, and he has learned from each of them.  I would certainly recommend him to anybody who wants to improve their game!

Pool Lessons at Donovan Billiards: A Luxury Worth Investing In

Turn left into the long winding driveway and make your way to the top of the mount.  Give yourself a moment to take in the Donovan Billiards pool table showroom, then enter into David’s luxurious studio and get ready for some serious old school pool instruction.  Go ahead and warm up on his nine foot table, but be prepared for a few pointers that will elegantly take your game to the next level. No matter what level you’re at, there’s always room for improvement with the basics:  stance, bridge, stroke, and follow-through. Think you’ve got that down? Then it’s time to fine tune your kicking and banking, perfect your cue control, plan your runout strategy, and master your defensive game. And, if you’re lucky, David will even show you some trick shots just to have fun.

When you take a pool lesson with David Donovan, you better take good notes or setup a decent video camera, because there’s a lot to cover, a lot to take in, and a lot to remember.  Now, are you ready for Lesson Two?

Several years after I retired, I started playing pool.  I enjoyed the game and joined APA, playing on a league. I bought a table to practice on, and my game improved but not greatly.  One day in a local pool room, while practicing, to my great fortune, David Donovan approached me and asked if I’d like to play. I had seen him numerous times playing and knew he was a top notch player.  My first thought was I would be racking balls for him to practice, but agreed to play. To my surprise, he spent more time helping me with my game than he did shooting. Later, I learned he was a certified instructor and started taking lessons from him, and I continue to do so.  My game has improved greatly, I am now on two BCA teams, 8 ball and 9 ball, and my ranking is steadily improving, and I now get lots of compliments from other players on how much my game has improved. My team captain says, “I don’t know what you are doing to improve your game, but keep doing it!”  Regardless of your skill level, if you would like to improve your game, I would highly recommend you contact David. Talk to him about your game and sign up for some intensive lessons. He is a great coach, has a great passion for the sport, and is very sincere about helping others.

In the mid 90’s, I moved to South Carolina, and I had the good fortune of meeting David at a 9 ball tournament.  At that time, my game was struggling, and after he beat me 9-3 in our match, he shared some positive advice that was really helpful.  Later, I learned that he taught lessons, and after seeing his passion for the sport and his sincere desire to help others, I signed up for lessons.  At that time, I had been playing pool for 30 years and had taken lessons from several instructors, but after several months with David as my coach, my game drastically improved.

David was a great teacher and made it fun to learn the ART OF POOL.  I especially liked his practice exercises. Also, really liked that he gave us things to work on when we practiced on our own.
